Exercise and How to Manage Stress

Stress can be defined as a state of emotional or mental strain which in most cases have adverse effects. One is said not to be a good state of mind when they are stressed. Many things can cause stress. Different people usually have different stress triggers. Our workplaces can be our source of stress. Causes of stress in the workplace include being unhappy with the job, working for long hours, working under dangerous conditions among other causes. There are also life stresses. Under life stress, there is the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job and getting married.

The cause of someone’s stressful situation can be themselves. It is possible to stress oneself by worrying about some things. Examples of such are fear and certainty, attitude and perceptions, unrealistic expectations, and major life changes. Stress is not something that is healthy. People are advised to try as much as they can to relieve themselves from stress. There are some negative health effects that are associated with stress. Irritability, a headache, fatigue, and difficulty in sleeping are the examples of the health implications of stress. Some of these conditions are vital. However, there are ways that can help a stressed person to do away with the stress.

Below are examples of tips that can assist a person to deal with stress. Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol should be avoided by avoided when a person is experiencing stress. Nicotine and caffeine are known to be stimulants. People mistake these substances for reducing the stress levels but in the real case they increase it. Despite alcohol being a depressant when consumed in large quantities, it is not an effective way of managing the stress. Another way of managing stress is getting enough sleep. Lack of sleep has been identified to be a cause of stress. There are certain relaxation techniques that can assist someone to reduce stress. Majority of these relaxation techniques have been tried and tested.

Physical exercise is another method of managing stress. Stress is characterized by the increasing levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. The levels of these hormones can be increased further by doing exercise. Even the slow exercises can still assist one to achieve these effects. One can even walk in fresh air. A more permanent situation is the incorporation of physical activities in your daily routine.

There are certain ways on how exercise help in stress management. One of the direct stress-busting effects of exercise is that it pumps up your endorphins. These are brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters. Exercises help a person to forget about someone’s day irritations. Exercise is also effective in improving the mood of a person. Improving the moods of a person is as a result of increased confidence, and lowering symptoms of depression.
